Ridge Top Exteriors’ video explains how roofing repairs are crucial to stop further roof destruction and possible loss of your home.
However, how can you determine if roofing repairs are needed? Ridge op Exteriors’ Jeff Beck gives a roof walkthrough and explains what Beck considers when determining if your roof needs of repair.
Jeff describes how the top layer composed from granular tile protects the asphalt tiles beneath it. When this layer suffers losses in granularity, the tiles fail to safeguard the asphalt. Asphalt is at risk to elements. So keeping the granular coating in tip-top appearance keeps roofing repairs and roofing replacement on the table.
Granular tiles that are damaged look dark in the damaged regions where the granules are damaged. They have been worn away or cracked due to sun, wind, and snow. These tiles should be repaired during roof repairs. Beck says that any nails that are damaged by caulking need to be replaced or pulled back by brand new nails. All nails should then be covered by calking, so that snow and rain don’t penetrate the nail. This is particularly true for air vents , as well as the other roof vents.
